JEJU SEONGSAN · A SHAREHOUSE FOR WOMEN & COUPLES
자리끼(zarikki) [Korean · noun]
A bowl of water placed at the bedside before sleep, for thirst in the night.
Water set out in advance, for a guest who may wake thirsty — with that same care, we wait for you in Seongsan.
ABOUT
Zarikki House is an old Jeju home in Goseong-ri, Seongsan, built more than forty years ago. The host lives here, and opens one room of the house to women or couples.
The living room, kitchen, bathroom, yard, and rooftop are shared. The living-room table is good for working, for reading, and for conversations that run late. From the rooftop, with Seongsan Ilchulbong in view, you can even have a small barbecue.
While you stay, the host looks after the cleaning and upkeep of the shared spaces. It is an old house, so an insect may wander in now and then — but daily care keeps everything comfortable.
Drifting from place to place on the mainland, I ended up in Jeju — the place that most resembles me. In the spirit of leaving water at the bedside so no one wakes thirsty in the night, I will think ahead to each of your days here.
— your host at Zarikki House
